TOKYO, JAPAN—October 15, 2023—Sony Corporation announced today the launch of its new AI-powered service called “AI Occasion Suggestions.” The tool aims to help users plan events by generating tailored ideas based on personal preferences, schedules, and past activities. It is built into Sony’s existing entertainment platforms, including music, gaming, and streaming services.

The AI analyzes user data like calendar entries, location history, and content consumption patterns. It then recommends activities such as movie nights, gaming tournaments, or themed parties. Users receive notifications with preparation tips, playlist ideas, and device setup guides. Sony stressed that all data remains private and is processed locally on devices unless users opt for cloud-based features.
The company tested the service with over 10,000 customers in Japan earlier this year. Feedback showed 78% of participants used the tool at least twice a week. Many reported saving time planning gatherings. Sony’s Head of AI Development, Kenji Sato, said the goal is to simplify decision-making. “People want fun without stress. This tool handles the planning so they focus on enjoyment,” he explained.
AI Occasion Suggestions will roll out globally in December. It will be free for Sony device owners, including PlayStation, Bravia TV, and Xperia smartphone users. Subscribers to Sony’s premium entertainment apps will get advanced features like vendor discounts and cross-platform integration.
The service adapts to cultural trends and seasonal events. For example, it might propose horror-themed gaming nights in October or family karaoke sessions during holidays. Users can adjust preferences manually or let the AI learn from their feedback over time.
